We’ve arrived at The Baby Bistro by Joohee Muromcew (please don’t let me pronounce it). The cover is cute, with a baby holding a wooden spoon, sitting in a bowl surrounded by yummy whole foods. This book promises to be good.
And it is. I tried seven recipes, and all tasted great if not a bit bland. But we understand it’s made for babies and toddlers, so we just added more spices to ours. Th recipes are adventurous with an international flair. I especially enjoyed making Palak Paneer (woohoo! Indian cuisine!) and apple pancakes. Billy enjoyed eating all but to the black beans and rice, as he’s half Cuban and the bland taste (even with my addition of spices) was certainly not authentic. Hey, but there are not many baby food cookbooks where international cuisine is featured! I’m impressed. The author also includes helpful tips such as how to travel with good food and how to tweak the recipes. She also lists healthy snacks.
The only negative I can see with the recipes is if you don’t know your way around the kitchen very well, the recipes won’t help you very much. They also need a bit of tweaking sometimes. Also, I’m looking for nutritious and delicious foods. The Baby Bistro scores an A in delicious, but there are too many recipes calling out for butter and frying and not enough healthy foods to merit excellence in nutritious. I would give it a B- in nutritious. For the bored family cook with babies and toddlers, this is a wonderful, refreshing addition.
