There’s a wonderful Chinese proverb I love which says, “A 1,000 mile journey begins with a single step.” When swimming upstream, a single stroke. After many nights in which that tiny little nagging voice (which you should never ignore) kept telling me to start my Swimming Upstream blog, here it is.
With a soon-to-be seven-month-old baby girl and an energetic four-year-old, my days have been busy without even trying. However, trying is what I’m all about. Most days anyway. We’ve been baking, going to the pool for my eldest Brandon to practice swimming and biking, and I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen with ways to make very healthy foods irresistibly delicious. No small feat, as many books are either or.
I’m starting from the ground up with making over our whole family to even healthier eating. From fresh, whole, organic baby foods to fresh, whole, organic foods for the rest of the family food. My goal is for our family to eat 75% organic by the end of this year.
The other issue I’m working on is homeschooling Brandon. So far we’ve been doing unschooling mostly, and some casual writing and counting games and such. However, I’m considering moving over to a more structured program like WinterPromise for Kindergarten. It seems like he needs more structure and hey, perhaps I do too.
In regards to exercise, Billy’s been doing well with his daily workouts, but I haven’t had a chance. My workouts have involved bending over to do the dishwasher and carrying loads of laundry to and fro. I have a Bellydance workout DVD that leaves me dripping sweat from my eyebrows after I’m done with only my abs and arms. I haven’t even started hitting my target areas, glutes and hips! It looks so easy when you look on the cover.
I’m sure many more issues will come out of the woodwork, but right now these main topics are my focus.
